2023 Vintage Earns Critical Acclaim — Two 97s and a Sweep of Top Scores
The 2023 Domaine Della releases drew an extraordinary chorus of praise — led by a pair of 97-point, Editors' Choice Pinots and a 96-point Chardonnay from a legendary vineyard. Here are all ten wines and the reviews behind their top scores.
The 2023 vintage at Domaine Della has been met with a remarkable outpouring of critical acclaim across the wine press. From Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling to Antonio Galloni, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Spectator, Owen Bargreen and Wilfred Wong, our 2023 releases earned a deep run of top scores — anchored by two 97-point, Editors' Choice Pinot Noirs and a 96-point Chardonnay from one of California's most storied vineyards.
And for the second year running, our “Terra de Promissio Vineyard” SC Pinot Noir was named to Wine Spectator’s “Top California Pinot Noirs of 2023” — a back-to-back honor we’re especially proud of.
Below are all ten 2023 wines, each with its highest score and the full review that earned it.
The Top Three
“Terra de Promissio Vineyard” SC Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 97 points — Editors' Choice: "Bright and buoyant aromas of raspberries, cocoa powder, rose petals and cinnamon waft from the glass on the nose of this Pinot. The palate shows electric acidity, powder fine tannin and explosive flavors of Bing cherry, orange peel, Darjeeling and flowers that move and shake across the long finish."
“Earl Stephens Vineyard” RRV Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 97 points — Editors' Choice: "This ripe and opulent Pinot delivers gorgeous aromas of raspberry coulis, crushed Bing cherry and rose petals on the nose. The palate brings rich, velvety tannin, energetic acidity and flavors of fresh strawberry, cinnamon and pithy orange along the finish. An absolute showstopper."
Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine Enthusiast, 96 points — Editors' Choice: "Fresh and focused aromas of pineapple, nectarine, sage and green herbs lift the nose of this charming Chardonnay from a legendary vineyard. The palate brings rich texture with beautifully balanced acidity and flavors of pithy Meyer lemon, Gala apple, cinnamon and orange blossom before long and meandering finish with echoes of flowers, minerals and spice."
The Full 2023 Lineup
“4 Amours” Special Blend SC Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 96 points — Cellar Selection: "This elegant and bright Pinot delivers crystalline cherry and raspberry on the nose alongside rose petal and cinnamon, while the palate brings beautifully balanced acid and tannin, with flavors of roasted cherry, Darjeeling, cola and cocoa powder expanding through the finish. Best from 2030-2040."
Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 95 points: "Fresh raspberry, rose petal and orange peel aromas burst from the glass on the nose of this sumptuous Pinot. The palate displays energetic acidity, with flavors of Black cherry, plum compote, licorice and cinnamon lingering on the finish. Drink this with grilled ribs or roasted pork loin and plum sauce."
Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 94 points: "This appellation cuvée is lovely and lush, starting with aromas of black cherry, vanilla ice cream and hot chai tea. The palate is vibrant in flavors of cherry and strawberry as star anise and cappuccino elements complete the satisfying sip."
“Graham Family Vineyard” RRV Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 94 points: "Super bright cherry and raspberry aromas burst from the glass on the nose of this Pinot, while the palate shows plush tannin, zesty acidity and flavors of cherry, cola spice, orange peel and fried shiitake and eases into a long and lifted finish."
Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Wine Enthusiast, 94 points: "Aromas of bright raspberry, purple flowers and Bing cherry waft from the glass on the nose of this punchy and intense Pinot. The palate delivers a wave of juicy orange peel acidity, plush tannin and flavors of berry pie filling, cedar, black tea and roses. Lovely stuff."
“Soberanes Vineyard” SLH Pinot Noir
Antonio Galloni, 93 points: "The 2023 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard is laced with plum, blueberry, lavender, cloves, new leather and menthol. Medium in body, with lovely mid-palate presence and fine balance, the Soberanes is another very pretty, expressive wine in this lineup. The 2023 shows off the more translucent side of the Santa Lucia Highlands to great effect. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035"
Rose of Pinot Noir RRV
James Suckling, 91 points: "A fruity, charming and playful rosé with notes of red currants, sour cherries and apricots. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Vivid and agile with a lively backbone of sour berries and a succulent finish. Drink now."
Our deepest thanks to the critics and publications who tasted the 2023 vintage — and to the growers and team whose work made these wines possible.
